Now at peace, after several bloody decades,Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in Asia. While surroundedby powerful and influential neighbors such as Thailand and Vietnam and submittedthe growing role of China, this country's development indicators are far below global average.Proud of its past and still committed to traditional values, Cambodia must take full advantage of this period ofpeace and regional dynamism to invest inthe future and foster economic and social development. Abetter governance, sound management of natural resources andpriority given to education, health, human capital and to a dynamic new generation should enable the country to find thepath to development.During his trip, the friendship group delegation, which cameto the country eight years after a journey of the same type, could observe theprogress made by the country, the will of the Cambodians to move forward,but also many issues to resolve.
