Social health insurance - Social security and HIV/AIDS
Summary
HIV/AIDS is the most serious infection in the world today. Although HIV/AIDS is described as an epidemic, this infection has given rise to several other epidemics namely: the disease (AIDS) itself, emergency of widows and widowers, death and orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). It is now well known that the HIV infection is dynamic, complex and therefore requires strategic thinking, programming and response. The infection rates range from less than 0.1 per cent to over 35 per cent in some countries.
