Resumen

Evidence shows that social protection policies can help tackle child mortality most immediately by reducing malnutrition and poor health. Social protection policies are, therefore, critical to child survival efforts in countries with high rates of child and maternal mortality.

This policy brief outlines:

  • the definition and rationale of social protection;
  • Save the Children's position in key debates;
  • recommendations for effective programme design that maximises benefits for children.
