Summary

A series of slides presenting the definition and objectives of social security (SS) and social protection (SP) within the International Labour Organization. The need for the extension of social protection is presented within this framework. The role of health micro-insurance is also presented as a mechanism for the extension of SP, and as one of the main areas of intervention of the STEP Programme in the Social Security Department.
