Significant gaps in social protection for informal economy workers.
More than 60 percent of the global workforce is engaged in informal employment (ILO 2023), and the vast majority of these individuals face significant deficits in decent work, particularly in the realm of social protection. In reality, the vast majority of workers in informal employment are among the 69 percent of the global population who have little or no access to social protection (ILO 2021a).
