Summary

This brief features experiences with extending social protection to workers in the informal economy during the European Union-funded Improving Synergies Between Social Protection and Public Finance Management (SP&PFM) Programme. This brief draws from the experiences and results of partner countries within the SP&PFM Programme between 2020 and 2023. The good practices relate to the design and implementation of the strategies for extending coverage to workers in the informal economy and for opening pathways to formality. These learnings and new practices should provide useful guidance to policymakers, practitioners and social partners.
