Resumen

Using a gendered approach, this paper provides a conceptual basis and a review of initiatives concerning the extension of protection for workers in the informal economy. It examines the situation of women in this sector as well as their need for social protection. It then proposes an approach for extending this protection, based on a multi-dimensional matrix. Lastly, it presents a series of case studies on innovative systems for covering people working in the informal economy.
