It examines the important involvement of employers' and workers' organizations, academics, professionals and experts in developing and reforming public pension policy. It illustrates the variety of approaches taken to pensions by analysing the schemes of seven industrialized countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Italy, and Spain. It evaluates the role of social dialogue among the groups in reaching a consensus on viable pension reform.
