Resumen

This study analyzes socio-economic and demographic factors influencing enrolment of households of the Indian state of Haryana to "Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna." This is a voluntary, Government sponsored health insurance scheme for poor households started in April 2008. The paper was written by Nalini Gulati, at the end of her three-months internship at the ILO's Regional Office for South Asia; it is based on empirical evidence from the state of Haryana, a state that is being looked upon as a forerunner in the implementation of RSBY.
